Interstate 35 traffic switch and lane closures near Forest Lake begin Sept. 9
Northbound I-35 exit and entrance ramps at Hwy 97 also scheduled to open Sept. 9
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists traveling on southbound Interstate 35 near Forest Lake will encounter long-term lane closures as crews prepare to pave the southbound lanes, weather permitting.
The following lane closures will be in effect Monday, Sept. 9 through fall 2019:
- After morning rush hours, southbound I-35W/I-35E between I-35 and one mile south of the I-35W/I-35E split will be reduced to a single lane.
- The southbound I-35 lanes between Highway 97 and the I-35W/I-35E split will be reduced to two lanes of traffic after 8 a.m., Monday, Sept. 9.
As a reminder, northbound I-35W between I-35 and one mile south of the I-35W/I-35E split will continue to be reduced to a single lane.
In addition, the northbound I-35 ramps to and from Highway 97 are scheduled to reopen by the end of the day on Monday, Sept. 9. The Highway 97 ramps have been closed since Aug. 16 for paving.
Motorists will continue to encounter off-peak lane closures on I-35 between the I-35W/I-35E split and Highway 8 as needed through this fall, as crews continue paving the interstate.
The I-35 North Metro Split project includes paving the existing pavement from the I-35W/I-35E split to Highway 8; replacing the Highway 97 bridge with a diverging diamond interchange; replacing the northbound I-35W bridge over I-35E and the westbound Highway 8 bridge over I-35. The project will provide a better ride quality, as well as improve safety and traffic flow at the Highway 97 interchange.
