MnDOT to close Central Avenue bridge in Wayzata June 28 for four months
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Crews will close the Central Avenue (Hennepin County Road 101) bridge over Highway 12 for about four months starting at 10 p.m. Friday, June 28.
Short term: Highway 12 closure
Highway 12 will be closed at the bridge starting at 10 p.m. Friday, June 28 to 5 a.m. Monday July 1 while parts of the bridge are removed. Motorists will be detoured up and down the ramps at Central Avenue to continue on Highway 12.
While the bridge is closed, motorists should follow the signed detours around the closure. The detour routes are chosen because they can handle higher volumes of traffic and can be managed more easily. For everyone’s safety, MnDOT is asking motorists to avoid using neighborhood streets because they are not designed for through traffic.
Long term: Central Avenue bridge closed
The ramps connecting Central Avenue to Highway 12 will close July 2 for construction.
MnDOT, in partnership with Hennepin County, is widening the bridge, installing new concrete on the road, adding left turn lanes, repairing ramps and replacing sidewalks. The improvements will enhance safety and improve the drive for the 18,000 people who use the bridge daily.
Work is expected to be completed in fall 2019, weather permitting. To learn more about the Highway 12, Central Avenue bridge project and to see the detours, visit mndot.gov/metro/projects/hwy12andcountyroad101bridge.
