Lane shifts and ramp closures begin August 7 on I-494 in Newport, Inver Grove Heights and South St. Paul
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists traveling on westbound I-494 between Highway 61 in Newport and Blaine Avenue in Inver Grove Heights should plan for delays as westbound I-494 traffic is shifted to the outside lanes and ramps close beginning at 7 p.m. August 7.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, crews will begin shifting traffic to the outside lanes of I-494 over the Wakota Bridge. Three lanes of traffic on westbound I-494 will remain open however, the ramp from Maxwell Avenue will be closed and detoured to Bailey Road, eastbound I-494 and Lake Road to access westbound I-494. The westbound ramps at Concord Street will also close and be detoured to Hardman Avenue.
These traffic shifts and ramp closures are part of a larger project on I-494 where crews will widen, resurface and replace bridge joints on the Concord St/Hwy 156 bridge, construct auxiliary lanes on westbound I-494 between Hardman Ave. to west of 5th Ave., improve drainage and construct noise walls.
