Construction of Hwy 65 Reduced Conflict Intersection at 187th Ave. in East Bethel begins Friday, August 3
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Construction of a Reduced Conflict Intersection at the intersection of 187th Ave. and Hwy 65 in East Bethel begins Friday, Aug. 3. (The start date was delayed from Monday, July 30, 2018.)
Beginning Friday morning, Aug. 3, the center median on Hwy 65 at 187th Ave. will close, which will prevent traffic from crossing Hwy 65 at 187th Ave. or from making left turns from either direction of the Hwy onto either direction of 187th Ave. Traffic will still be able to make a right turn off the Hwy, except during work this weekend. Traffic will follow a signed detour during the median closure.
Construction of a concrete island to channel traffic on the west side of the intersection and a right turn lane extension from southbound Hwy 65 to westbound 187th Avenue will begin Friday morning, Aug. 3 and will continue throughout the weekend. Throughout the weekend, southbound Hwy 65 will be restricted to a single lane and there will be no access from the southbound Hwy to 187th Ave. This preliminary work will be completed by Monday morning, and 187th Ave. will reopen west of Hwy 65.
A two-year project to build six Reduced Conflict Intersections (RCIs) on Hwy 65 in Ham Lake and East Bethel is currently underway. The first of this year’s two projects began Monday, July 23 at the intersection of 157th Avenue and Hwy 65 in Ham Lake. Construction will wrap up at both locations by early October, 2018.
The remaining four RCIs will be built during the 2019 construction season at 143rd Avenue, 153rd Avenue, 181st Avenue and Viking Boulevard. The RCI at Viking Boulevard and Hwy 65 in East Bethel will be the first signalized RCI in Minnesota.
The project also includes lengthening the left turn lanes at nine locations between East Bethel and Spring Lake Park in 2019. All work on RCIs and turn lanes will be completed by fall 2019. Construction of Reduced Conflict Intersections and turn lane improvements will improve safety and mobility on the Hwy 65 corridor between 85th Ave. in Spring Lake Park and Sims Road in East Bethel.
