Eastbound Interstate 94 temporary ramp closures in the East Metro begin May 10

Weekend ramp closure on westbound Interstate 94 begins May 11

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Several eastbound Interstate 94 ramps between St. Paul and Maplewood will temporarily close to traffic for approximately two hours at a time between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. tomorrow, May 10, to allow construction crews to complete permanent lane striping. These ramp closures will not occur simultaneously. At least every other ramp will remain open at all times.

Anticipated temporary ramp closures are:

  • Eastbound I-94 to White Bear Avenue
  • White Bear Avenue to eastbound I-94
  • Eastbound I-94 to Ruth Street
  • Eastbound I-94 to southbound McKnight Road
  • Eastbound I-94 to northbound McKnight Road
  • Eastbound I-94 to Century Avenue
  • Century Avenue to eastbound I-94

Crews are taking advantage of tomorrow’s anticipated dry conditions to complete this work, which requires suitable weather conditions.

In addition, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 11, the ramp from westbound Interstate 94 to Mounds Boulevard will be close for the weekend to complete necessary sewer work, weather permitting.  Please use alternate routes during the ramp closure. The ramp is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, May 14.

If dry weather conditions continue, crews will also be finishing the permanent lane striping overnight on eastbound Interstate 94 between St. Paul and Maplewood Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 18. Each night starting at 8 p.m. Monday, May 14, eastbound Interstate 94 from Mounds Boulevard to Highway 120/Century Avenue will have overnight lane closures.  The lane closures will be lifted each morning by 7 a.m.

Construction crews are completing finishing touches in 2018, which includes Johnson Parkway bridge barrier work and completing permanent lane striping throughout the project limits. All major project work was completed in 2016-17. The Interstate 94 reconstruction and improvement project will provide a smoother, safer, long-lasting road with better pedestrian accessibility and improved drainage capabilities. Performing periodic pavement repairs at the appropriate times can greatly increase a road’s lifespan.
