MnDOT postpones southbound I-35E full closures this weekend between I-35 in Columbus and I-694 in Vadnais Heights
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The planned weekend full closure of southbound Interstate 35E for concrete repairs in the northeast Twin Cities Metro area has been cancelled due to the threat of rainy weekend weather. MnDOT had planned to close the southbound roadway from Friday night until early Monday morning to complete repairs to contraction joints running across the full width of the highway between I-35 in Columbus and I-694 in Vadnais Heights. The joints allow the pavement to expand and contract with the rise and fall of temperatures, which helps prevent cracks or other damage to the pavement. The northbound lanes were closed this past weekend and repairs were completed early Monday morning.
If weather cooperates, the southbound roadway will close at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30. If repairs are done sooner the roadway will reopen early. During next weekend’s closure, motorists need to detour south on I-35W and then east on I-694 to reach their destination or use another alternate route.
If next weekend’s forecast calls for rain or other inclement weather, work will again be postponed until the following weekend.
