I-94 east closure in Minneapolis, Brooklyn Center planned Sept. 15-18
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — A section of Interstate 94 east in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center is scheduled to be closed this weekend for paving.
The closure of I-94 east from Interstate 694 in Brooklyn Center to I-394 in Minneapolis will start at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 and is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18.
The detour is Interstate I-94/694 to Highway 169 south to I-394 east.
The ramps to eastbound I-94 will start closing at 9:30 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane inside the Lowry Hill Tunnel and the Portland Tunnel will see lane closures. All the closures are weather permitting.
The ramps from Third Street and East Lyndale in downtown Minneapolis to I-94 west will also be closed from midnight Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday for improvements.
The plan is to reopen the ramp from I-694 west to I-94 east Monday. Also Monday, the speed limit on I-94 east will increase to 60 mph in the project area.
These closures are part of the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center project that started March 20. The project is resurfacing nine miles of freeway, repairing 50 bridges and repairing all ramps from Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis to Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center.
The work this year is expected to be complete by the end of October. Crews will return in spring of 2018 for ramp repairs. The project is scheduled to be complete by July of 2018.
