Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 5 bridge to fully open during peak hours

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – All lanes of the Highway 5 bridge are expected to be open during rush hour starting at 6 a.m. Monday (Sept. 19).

The bridge will be open in all four lanes from 6-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. The plan to open the bridge Monday morning is weather permitting.

Work on the bridge continues that could require the closing of the right lane in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The right lanes will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.

The westbound lane has been closed this year and single-lane traffic was allowed in the eastbound in each direction.

The loop ramp from Shepard Road to westbound Highway 5 will remain closed for safety reasons.

The ramp from westbound Highway 55 to eastbound Highway 5 will remain closed until the project is completed.

The work is part of a two-year construction project on Highway 5 that includes:

  • Reconstructing the Highway 5 bridge deck.
  • Repairing both Mississippi River Boulevard/Shepard Road bridge decks over Highway 5.
  • Repairing the Edgcumbe Road bridge deck over Highway 5.
  • Repairing pavement on Highway 5 between the Mississippi River and Munster Avenue.

Work is scheduled for completion in November 2016, weather permitting.
The project will increase the life of the bridges and concrete pavement on Highway 5.
