Stillwater Lift Bridge scheduled to close overnight Aug. 25
Roseville, Minn.-The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close both directions of traffic on the Stillwater Lift Bridge spanning the St Croix River at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, weather permitting.
The lift bridge connects Minnesota Highway 36 and Wisconsin Highway 64.
During the overnight closure, the regular lift schedule will also be suspended. The scheduled bridge lifts for water traffic at 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. will be cancelled.
The lift bridge will reopen and resume its regular lift schedule by 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26.
Motorists are advised to use Interstate 94 or Highway 243 as detour routes.

Starting in fall 2017, the historic Stillwater Lift Bridge spanning the St. Croix River will undergo a transformation into a bicycle/pedestrian facility. This two year conversion project is part of the St. Croix Crossing Project and follows the opening of the new river bridge to traffic in the fall of 2017.
The converted lift bridge will also become part of a five-mile “loop trail” system connecting the new river crossing bridge up with the historic bridge. The lift bridge will continue to operate to accommodate boat navigation.
The repurposing of the historic lift bridge provides another transportation option for pedestrians and bicyclists.
