Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 12 safety improvements begin July 20

Nightly lane closures occur through late-August

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Highway 12 will encounter nightly lane closures at both junctions of County Road 92 in Independence beginning Wednesday, July 20, as traffic is restricted to a single lane. The closures will take place Monday through Friday Nights starting at 7 p.m. and all lanes of Highway 12 will re-open each morning by 5:30 a.m.

Highway 12 will remain open to through traffic during the lane restrictions.  Flaggers will be present to direct motorists traveling through the construction.

The closures are needed as crews begin work to install turn lanes at both junctions of County Road 92 and Highway 12.  Work on the turn lanes is scheduled for completion by late-August 2016, weather permitting.

The work is part of safety improvements for Highway 12 as recommended in the US 12 Road Safety Audit and will increase safety by separating left turning traffic from through traffic on Highway 12.  Future safety improvements to Highway 12 include median barrier installation between County Road 112 and County Road 6.  Barrier installation is scheduled to begin fall 2016 as a separate project.
