Weekend closure of I-35E in St. Paul scheduled for June 6-9
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will encounter delays and a detour on both directions of Interstate 35E in St. Paul as crews close the road to remove the Larpenteur Avenue and Gateway State Trail bridges spanning the interstate.
Beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, June 6, both directions of I-35E between Interstate 94 and Highway 36 will be reduced to two lanes; at 9 p.m. the road will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. Crews will begin closing the ramps within the closure area at 9 p.m. to prepare for the full road closure. The road and affected ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 9.
Motorists will be detoured to I-694 and I-94 during the closure.
In addition, the Larpenteur Avenue Bridge spanning I-35E will close at 5 p.m., June 6. The bridge will remain closed until approximately mid-July. The Gateway State Trail bridge will not be reconstructed as the trail is now routed across I-35E on the new Arlington Avenue bridge spanning the interstate.
During the bridge closure, motorists will be detoured to Westminster Street, Wheelock Parkway and Jackson Street.
All road and bridge progress is weather dependent. Construction activities may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.
The construction is part of the I-35E MnPASS project, which includes adding a MnPASS lane between Little Canada Road and Maryland Avenue, implementing long-term pavement improvements on I-35E and replacing the Arlington Avenue Bridge, the Wheelock Parkway Bridge, the Larpenteur Avenue Bridge and I-35E bridges spanning local roadways.
