Orange barrels on a highway

Northbound Hwy 77 ramps at I-494 in Bloomington closing Aug. 16

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists traveling eastbound on Interstate 494 and northbound on Highway 77/Cedar Avenue in Bloomington will encounter two ramp closures beginning Aug. 16 at 8 p.m.

The eastbound I-494 ramp to northbound Highway 77 and the northbound Highway 77 ramp to westbound I-494 will be closed through mid-October, weather permitting.

Eastbound I-494 motorists intending to access northbound on Highway 77 will be detoured to northbound 34th Street and westbound I-494.

Northbound Highway 77 motorists intending to access westbound I-494 should use the I-494/Highway 5 west exit that is located one-half mile south of the I-494/Highway 77 interchange. Detour signs will be posted.

The closures are needed as crews reconstruct the northbound Highway 77 bridge deck over I-494.

The project also includes:

  • Reconstructing bridge approach panels on northbound Highway 77 over I-494
  • Repairing the 12th Avenue and southbound Highway 77 bridges over I-494
  • Installing lighting on Highway 77

The 12th Avenue bridge over I-494 will close for 20 days beginning in early September. Two weekend closures of I-494 also are planned during the project. Closures dates will be announced when they are determined.

Traffic on Highway 77 will remain open for the duration of the project. Highway 77 motorists can expect traffic switches, narrow lanes and ramp closures through early October.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully through the work zone and to watch for slow moving construction vehicles.

Performing these repairs now will extend the lifespan of the bridges and prevent the need for more costly repairs in the future.
