The road will be closed to through traffic until late fall 2014

ROSEVILLE, Minn – Motorists traveling in NE Minneapolis will encounter a detour on Hwy 65/Central Avenue as crews close the road on May 19 to reconstruct the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Bridge spanning the Hwy at 15th Avenue.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, May 19, Hwy 65/Central Avenue between 18th and 14th Avenues will be closed. Access to the local businesses along Central Avenue will remain open.

The road will re-open in the fall.

During the closure, northbound Hwy 65 traffic will be detoured on Broadway Avenue to Johnson Street and to Lowry Avenue; southbound traffic will be detoured on Lowry Avenue to University Avenue and to Broadway Avenue. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be directed to 14th Avenue, to Van Buren, to Monroe Avenue, and to 18th Avenue.

Closing the road during construction allows crews to build a temporary alignment for the railroad and to efficiently and safely reconstruct the bridge. For more information about the construction or to sign up for email project updates, visit mndot.gov/metro/projects/hwy65mpls/
