Weekend closure of Hwy 62 in Minneapolis/Edina begins April 25
Pre-cast deck panel reduce the time and material needed to reconstruct the bridge deck
ROSEVILLE, Minn – Motorists traveling in Minneapolis and Edina will encounter another weekend detour on Hwy 62 as crews close the Hwy to install the bridge deck panels on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge.
Beginning at 10 p.m., Friday, April 25, Hwy 62 between Hwy 100 and Interstate 35W will close so crews can continue reconstructing the bridge deck.
Beginning early Saturday, April 26, crews will deliver 28, 10’ by 30’ bridge deck panels that were cast at County Materials in Wisconsin. The purpose of using bridge panels that were precast at a remote location, rather than pouring the bridge deck onsite, is to reduce the time and material needed on site/under traffic to complete the bridge deck. The Hwy will re-open by 5 a.m., Monday, April 28. The bridge is expected to open in early July.
Eastbound Hwy 62 to France Avenue will remain open for hospital traffic only.
During the closure, westbound Hwy 62 traffic will be detoured to I- 494 and to Hwy 100. Eastbound Hwy 62 traffic will be detoured to I-494 and to I-35W.
