Weekend closure of I-35E rescheduled for March 7-10 in St. Paul
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will encounter delays and a detour on both directions of Interstate 35E as the roadway closes between I-94 in St. Paul and Highway 36 in Little Canada at 10 p.m., Friday, March 7.
The closure is necessary to remove the Arlington Avenue and Wheelock Parkway bridges spanning I-35E, which will be reconstructed as part of the I-35E MnPASS project. Both bridges will close between 5 and 6 p.m., and the ramps within the I-35E closure area will begin closing at approximately 9 p.m. Lane closures on I-35E will begin in advance of the closure at approximately 7 p.m. March 7.
Motorists will be detoured on I-694 and I-94 to bypass the I-35E closure. The roadway is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, March 10. Previously scheduled to close Feb. 28 - March 3, the work was rescheduled due to the weather. The closure may again be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.
The Arlington Avenue and Wheelock Parkway bridges spanning I-35E will remain closed for reconstruction until early May 2014. The following detours will be in place for local motorists trying to cross I-35E:
- Arlington Avenue detour: L’Orient Street, Maryland Avenue and Westminster Street
- Westbound Wheelock Parkway detour: northbound on the I-35E east frontage road, westbound on Larpenteur Avenue and southbound on the I-35E west frontage road
- Eastbound Wheelock Parkway detour: northbound on Jackson Street, eastbound on Larpenteur Avenue and southbound on Westminster Street
The reconstruction is part of the I-35E MnPASS project, which aims to add a MnPASS lane between Little Canada Road and Maryland Avenue, implement long-term pavement improvements on I-35E and replace the Arlington Avenue Bridge, the Wheelock Parkway Bridge, the Larpenteur Avenue Bridge and I-35E bridges spanning local roads.
