ROSEVILLE, Minn – Motorists traveling in Bloomington/Richfield will encounter a road closure and detour this weekend on westbound Interstate 494 between 24th Avenue and I-35W as crews resurface the roadway.
At 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, westbound I-494 between 24th Avenue and I-35W will close. The roadway will re-open by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via Highway 77 and Highway 62. In addition, northbound I-35W traffic to westbound I-494 will be detoured to westbound Highway 62 and southbound Highway100. The eastbound I-494 lanes will remain open during the closure of the westbound lanes.
This work is part of the I-494 improvement project. The overall project will improve the flow of traffic, improve the road surface for motorists, reduce roadway maintenance needs by replacing guard rails with concrete median barriers and improve future opportunities that match local development goals due to replacement of the Xerxes Avenue Bridge.
