Open house for Central Avenue/BNSF Railroad Bridge reconstruction project in Minneapolis set for Oct. 24

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists, the business community and residents are invited to an open house on Thursday, Oct.  24 to learn about the Central Avenue/Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad Bridge Reconstruction Project in Minneapolis.

The informal open house will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Logan Park, 690 13th Avenue NE Minneapolis.

Attendees will have an opportunity to view the details of the project, the bike, vehicle and pedestrian detours, and provide feedback regarding the aesthetics of the bridge, retaining walls and railings. Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and from the city of Minneapolis will be available to discuss the project and to answer questions.

The project, scheduled to begin in 2014, includes replacing the BNSF Railroad Bridge spanning Central Avenue in Minneapolis, resurfacing Central Avenue between 14th Avenue NE and 18th Avenue NE, and constructing new sidewalks and retaining walls. The existing bridge was constructed in 1924. The bridge has aged and needs to be replaced. The Minnesota Department of Transportation, the city of Minneapolis and BNSF Railway have been working together to develop the design and construction plans for a new bridge.
