Vehicles 35 feet or longer are prohibited on northbound Highway 52/ Lafayette Bridge
Minnesota State Patrol increased enforcement effort to continue through December
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – All vehicles or vehicle combinations of 35 feet or longer on Highway 52 Lafayette Bridge are prohibited from crossing the Mississippi River and must exit prior to or at Plato Boulevard, according to the Minnesota Departments of Transportation and Public Safety.
The agencies are reminding motorists and commercial vehicle operators of the prohibition because of safety concerns for workers in the construction zone. Drivers are directed by traffic signs in the area to take alternate routes.
The Minnesota State Patrol will continue to provide extra law enforcement in the area through the end of the year. Operators of any vehicle in violation of the 35 foot length restrictions will be ticketed. Since April, the State Patrol has issues 960 citations to drivers who failed to comply.
Alternate detour routes for vehicle combinations of 35 feet or longer:
- Northbound Highway 52: Follow eastbound I-494 to northbound Highway 61 to westbound
- I-494 to Mounds Boulevard to 7th Street
- Southbound Highway 52: Follow 7th Street to Mounds Boulevard to eastbound I-94 to southbound Highway 61 to westbound I-494.
