Portland Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis scheduled to open August 23

After four months of construction and several interstate lane closures, the Portland Avenue Bridge spanning I-94 and I-35W is set to re-open at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23.

In addition, Portland Avenue between East 16th Street and East 17th Street will re-open; the direction of traffic on Portland Avenue between East 18th Street and East 19th Street, which had changed to accommodate detoured traffic, will revert to the pre-construction direction.

Reconstructing the Portland Avenue Bridge is part of a $5.7 million bridge preservation project. The reconstruction includes new bridge decks, approaches, beams and bridge rails, and upgraded pedestrian crossings.

Motorists will encounter delays and detours on Park Avenue as crews continue reconstructing the Park Avenue Bridge, which is expected to open in mid-September.
