The project, which is slated to begin in spring 2014, includes the construction of a new ramp from 4th Street S, the construction of an auxiliary lane from University Avenue to the Johnson Street exit, and proposes the construction of noise walls along I-35W. The new ramp and auxiliary lane will relieve congestion on Washington Avenue, improve access to northbound I-35W from downtown Minneapolis, reduce the traffic that diverts through Northeast Minneapolis to access northbound I-35W, and improve access to northbound I-35W.
