New Hastings Bridge opens to southbound traffic tonight;
Northbound traffic will continue to use the old Hastings Bridge
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will encounter a traffic switch as the southbound lane of Highway 61 is rerouted to the new Hastings Bridge late today. Northbound traffic will continue to use the old Hastings Bridge.
Northbound traffic will be rerouted to the new bridge approximately 24 hours after southbound traffic is rerouted.
Pedestrians and bicyclists will not be allowed to use the new bridge until all four lanes of traffic are open to motorists. A new 12-foot wide pedestrian/bicycle path will be complete at the end of the year.
Construction crews will begin deconstructing the old Hastings Bridge as early as 7 a.m. June 5.
Access to local businesses and residences on both sides of the bridge will not be affected. Additionally, all Hastings area marinas are open and accessible via Highway 61.
