I-694 traffic switch set tonight between Hwy 100 in Brooklyn Center, I-35W in Arden Hills
Roseville, Minn.— After a one-day delay due to equipment problems overnight, the planned traffic restrictions will begin tonight on westbound I-694 between East River Road and Hwy 100 in Brooklyn Center. And if weather and time permit, traffic restrictions also will begin on the eastbound roadway in the same area. The ramp from East River Road to westbound I-694 did close last night as originally planned and will remain closed until mid-October.
Motorists will encounter single lane traffic on both sides of the interstate beginning at 7 p.m. tonight as traffic is switched onto the outside lanes of the westbound interstate between East River Road and Hwy 100 in Brooklyn Center. Once the westbound switch is completed, crews will switch traffic on the eastbound lanes in the same area if time permits. If all goes as planned, morning commuters will find two lanes of traffic in each direction through this area.
The traffic restrictions are needed for concrete pavement repair, drainage and bridge deck replacement project on I-694 between Hwy 100 in Brooklyn Center and Interstate 35W in Arden Hills. During the work, motorists will find long-term lane closures and ramp and loop closures along the interstate.
Later this week, lane closures on both sides of the interstate will be expanded between I-35W and Hwy 100 through the end of the project in early November. Traffic will be restricted to two lanes of traffic daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and traffic will be a single lane in each direction each night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. Ramps/loops between I-35W and Hwy 100 will be closed for up to ten days at a time during this construction season. No two interchanges will be closed in a row so motorist will have access to and from the interstate at the next interchange from the one closed.
Watch for advance notice signs on all ramps for exact dates of closures. Information also will be provided in regular e-mail updates.
