Gateway State Trail in East Metro re-opens early


ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Both directions of the Gateway State Trail tunnel beneath Highway 36 in Pine springs and Lake Elmo are now open.

The trail was originally scheduled to remain closed through the weekend and re-open by 5 a.m. Monday, May 20.  Crews were able to complete drainage work along the trail earlier than expected.

The work is part of the Highway 36/Hilton Trail reconstruction project.

Gateway State Trail is an 18-mile multi-use trail located between St. Paul and Washington County. The western portion of the trail runs through St. Paul, Maplewood and North St Paul, passing through Phalen-Keller Regional Park.
