Orange barrels on a highway

Mississippi St. N. and Cayuga St. E. closures begin May 20

Mississippi Street N to close permanently to motorists

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – St. Paul area motorists and pedestrians may experience delays as Mississippi Street N./Case Avenue between Westminster Street and just south of Cayuga Street E, and Cayuga Street E between L’Orient Street and Mississippi Street N, close early Monday, May 20.

A posted detour will direct motorists on Mississippi Street N/Case Avenue to use Westminster Street, Cayuga Street, Phalen Boulevard, Olive Street and University Avenue. This portion of Mississippi Street N will be closed permanently due to future removal of the roadway as part of construction of the new interchange at I-35E and Cayuga Street E.

Motorists trying to access Cayuga Street E to travel east or west across I-35E will be directed to use Pennsylvania Avenue/Phalen Boulevard. Cayuga Street E will remain closed to motorists until reconstruction of the roadway is completed in late 2013.

Pedestrian access under I-35E via Cayuga Street E will remain available until a later date. Pedestrians are advised to follow signed routes and detours around areas of construction.

The closures are needed for continued utility, drainage and roadway work as part of the I-35E Cayuga improvement project. Area detour maps area available on the project website.

The I-35E Cayuga improvement project aims to reconstruct I-35E between University Avenue and Maryland Avenue, including replacement of the Cayuga Bridge, the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge and the railroad bridges along I-35E.
