Two Hwy 65 median crossovers closing in late April or early May

Uncontrolled crossings closing ahead of 2014 pavement improvement project

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Two median crossovers separating northbound and southbound Highway 65 in Fridley will close permanently in late April or early May depending on the weather.

The crossovers are closing in an effort to improve safety at both intersections.

The crossovers are located at Fireside Drive/Center Circle north of 73rd Avenue N.E. and at 68th Avenue N.E. Motorists will still be able to make right turns in or out of either of these intersections and the side streets to Highway 65 will also be accessible.

The closings are in advance of a Highway 65 resurfacing project scheduled for 2014. The project will include complete resurfacing of the roadway between 53rd Avenue N.E. in Fridley and County Road 10 in Spring Lake Park.

In addition, the 2014 project will include pedestrian and bus stop safety enhancements, drainage and guardrail replacements and upgrades.

Improvements to the Spring Lake Park High School pedestrian bridge, which spans Highway 65 at 80th Avenue N.E. will take place in May 2013.

Nearby residents and businesses can learn more about the corridor improvement schedule at an upcoming open house on Tuesday, April 9, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in rooms 114 and 116 of the Fridley Community Center at 6085 7th St NE, Fridley. MnDOT and City of Fridley Representatives will be on hand to outline these closures and highlight next year’s construction. Project layouts and other information will be on display.
