Updated:  I-494 ramp closure switch begins Sept. 28
Interstate 35W and Penn Avenue ramps to reopen, France Avenue ramps to close

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and traffic changes on westbound Interstate 494 in Richfield, Bloomington and Edina as closed ramps to and from the roadway reopen late Sept. 28 or early Sept. 29, and other ramps close early Sept. 29 and late Sept. 30.

The following closed ramps will reopen to traffic late Sept. 28 or early Sept. 29:

After the ramps reopen, the westbound I-494 ramp to France Avenue will close early Sept. 29 for westbound auxiliary lane construction. The ramp from southbound France Avenue to westbound I-494 will close the evening of Sept. 30.

Detours will direct motorists to use the westbound I-494 ramps to and from Penn Avenue. The France Avenue ramps will remain closed until early November.

The ramp closures switch is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.

Other ongoing ramp closures will continue to be in place throughout the corridor. For information regarding other current ramp closures in the project area, visit the project website at

The I-494 improvement project will raise the vertical clearance and update pedestrian accessibilities on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge, provide a smoother driving service and extend the lifespan of I-494, improve traffic flow due to added auxiliary lanes, and reduce maintenance needs by replacing guardrail with concrete barrier in the median. The entire project is expected to be completed by September 2013.
