Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue Xcel Energy project begins Oct. 3
Ten-day full closure of Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue begins Oct. 12
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and detours on both directions of Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue between E. Lake Street and E. 26th Street in Minneapolis as an Xcel Energy project begins Wednesday, Oct. 3.
At 8 p.m. Oct. 3, lane closures and traffic shifts will occur between E. 28th Street and E. Lake Street for project preparation activities. Lane closures will begin on northbound Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue and then southbound Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue as crews move to the west of the roadway throughout the night. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Oct. 4. The work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled for the evening of Oct. 4 in the case of inclement weather.
At 9 a.m. Oct. 9, access to and from northbound Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue at E. 28th Street and E. Lake Street will be closed, and northbound Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue traffic will be shifted toward the inside of the roadway. Motorists and pedestrians will be directed to E. 26th Street to access northbound Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue. The restrictions will remain in place until Oct. 12.
At 10 p.m. on Oct. 12, both directions of Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue between E. Lake Street and E. 26th Street will close.
The full closure will remain in place until 5 a.m. Oct. 22. During the closure, the following detours will be posted for motorists:
- Main detour: Use Hwy 62, I-35W and I-94
- Local area detour: Use E. Lake Street, Cedar Avenue and E. 26th Street
