I-35E closure scheduled for Aug. 18-19
Crews to move Maryland Avenue Bridge into position
(Roseville, Minn.) – Motorists will encounter delays and a detour on both directions of I-35E as the roadway closes between Hwy 36 and I-94 at 4 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. Crews will move the structure of the new Maryland Avenue Bridge to its permanent location.
Northbound I-35E motorists are advised seek alternate routes or to follow the posted detour during the closure: I-35E to the Kellogg Boulevard exit, west on Kellogg to Marion Street to westbound I-94. Motorists will then be directed to northbound Hwy 280, northbound I-35W, eastbound Hwy 36 and back to northbound I-35E. Southbound motorists are advised to follow the reverse of the northbound detour route.
Both directions of I-35E are scheduled to re-open by 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19.
In addition, the ramp from northbound I-35E to Maryland Avenue and the ramp from Maryland Avenue to northbound I-35E will close by 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20 as crews reconstruct them. The ramps are scheduled to re-open by mid-September. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detours during these ramp closures.
The ramp from southbound I-35E to Maryland Avenue and the ramp from Maryland Avenue to southbound I-35E are scheduled to re-open by 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20.
The Maryland Avenue Bridge is under construction on the west side of I-35E and will be moved into position in two sections with the use of a Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT). In this manner the overall Maryland Avenue closure time is reduced significantly. The Maryland Avenue Bridge spanning I-35E is scheduled to re-open to traffic by Sept. 17.
