Maryland Avenue Bridge replacement prompts closures
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Removal of the Maryland Avenue Bridge spanning I- 35E in St. Paul may cause delays for eastern Twin Cities Metro area motorists beginning Friday, July 13.
Maryland Avenue spanning I-35E will be restricted to a single lane in each direction at
12 noon Friday, July 13 and will close completely at 7 p.m. Friday as crews set up to remove the bridge. Motorists are advised to use the posted detour routes along Edgerton Street, Arlington Avenue and Jackson Street.
At 9 p.m. Friday, both directions of I-35E will be reduced to a single lane between Arlington Avenue and Cayuga Street. Northbound and southbound I-35E traffic will be routed up and down the Maryland Avenue ramps to avoid the I-35E closure beneath the bridge. There will be no access to I-35E from Maryland Avenue during the weekend restriction.
All lanes of I-35E are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 16.
As I-35E reopens, the ramp from southbound I-35E to Maryland Avenue and the ramp from Maryland Avenue to southbound I-35E will close at 5 a.m. Monday, July 16 as crews rebuild Maryland Avenue between L’Orient Street and the interstate. The ramps will reopen by late August.
The new Maryland Avenue Bridge will be open to traffic by mid-September.
The Maryland Avenue Bridge replacement is part of a series of improvement projects along I-35E. For more information visit http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/35estpaul/
