Ramp closures at I-494/I-35W interchange begin July 30
Ramps will remain closed after this weekend’s closure

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and closures at the I-494/35W interchange in Richfield and Bloomington as long-term ramp closures begin Monday, July 30.

The ramps will be closed during the July 27-30 closure of I-494 between Hwy 100 and I-35W, and remain closed when the roadway reopens by 5 a.m. July 30. The following ramp closures and detours will be in place:

In addition, the westbound I-494 ramps to and from Penn Avenue will remain closed. Motorists will be directed to use the ramps at the France Avenue interchange.

The ramp closures are needed as crews begin work to add a westbound I-494 auxiliary lane between I-35W and Hwy 100 as part of the I-494 improvement project. The loop ramps from northbound I-35W to westbound I-494 and westbound I-494 to southbound I-35W are expected to remain closed for approximately three weeks. The ramp from southbound I-35W to westbound I-494 may remain closed until late August and the Penn Avenue ramps may remain closed until approximately late September.

The I-494 improvement project will raise the vertical clearance and update pedestrian accessibilities on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge, provide a smoother driving service and extend the lifespan of I-494, improve traffic flow due to added auxiliary lanes, and reduce maintenance needs by replacing guardrail with concrete barrier in the median. The entire project is expected to be completed by September 2013.
