Washington Ave Bridge spanning I-494 closes July 23
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will encounter a detour on Washington Avenue when the bridge spanning Interstate 494 in Bloomington and Eden Prairie closes Monday, July 23.
The closure on the north side of the bridge will extend to the intersection of Viking Drive and Washington Avenue. Motorists should follow the posted detours during the closure:
- Viking Drive: Washington Avenue to westbound W. 76th Street to southbound Golden Triangle Drive to Viking Drive
- Washington Avenue: Eastbound Viking Drive to northbound Golden Triangle Drive to eastbound W. 76th Street to Washington Avenue
- Crossing I-494 via Washington Avenue Bridge: Westbound W. 78th Street (south frontage road) or Viking Drive (north frontage road) to Prairie Center Drive
The bridge will remain closed for approximately three weeks. Access to businesses and neighborhoods along the south side of I-494 will be available at Prairie Center Drive and W. 78th Street.
Part of the Highway 169/I-494 Interchange Reconstruction project, the closure is necessary for crews to construct the roundabout located at the north side of the bridge.
The Highway 169/I-494 interchange reconstruction project includes turning the current expressway into a freeway by rebuilding the interchange with six ramps instead of eight. The performance-based design removes traffic signals, reduces congestion and improves safety.
