Weekend-long closure scheduled for I-35E, 94 in St. Paul

Closures for Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project and Chatsworth Pedestrian Bridge removal

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will experience delays and detours beginning Friday, July 20 as two major corridors in St. Paul close for the weekend.

Westbound I-94 between I-35E and Highway 280, as well as southbound I-35E between the 10th/Wacouta Street exit and the 11th Street exit, will close at 8 p.m. July 20.

Eastbound I-94 between I-35E and Highway 280, as well as northbound I-35E between the 11th Street exit and the 10th/Wacouta Street exit, will close at 10 p.m. Friday, July 20.

All lanes of both roadways will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 23.

Eastbound I-94 motorists are advised to follow the posted detour: northbound Hwy 280 to eastbound Hwy 36 to southbound I-35E. Westbound I-94 motorists are advised to follow the posted detour: northbound I-35E to westbound Hwy 36 to southbound Hwy 280.

Northbound I-35E motorists are advised to follow the posted detour: eastbound I-494 to northbound Hwy 61 to westbound I-94.  Southbound I-35E motorists are advised to follow the posted detour: eastbound I-94 to southbound Hwy 61 to westbound I-494.

The closures are needed for continued Central Corridor Light Rail Transit (CCLRT) construction at the Capitol Interchange and the removal of the Chatsworth Pedestrian Bridge.

After the weekend closures, the left lane of both directions of I-94 at Chatsworth Street N. will be closed as crews work on the I-94 center median and bridge pier. The restrictions are expected to remain in place for the duration of the bridge replacement project.

Additional traffic restriction for the Chatsworth Pedestrian Bridge replacement project will include overnight lane closures as needed. The project will replace the current structure with an updated bridge that includes wider sidewalks and enhanced pedestrian accessibility. The entire project is expected to be completed by mid-November 2012.
