Final eastbound I-94 closure in Minneapolis scheduled for June 8-11
Resurfacing continues

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and a detour on eastbound I-94 in Minneapolis between Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue and Hwy 280 as the roadway closes at 10 p.m. Friday, June 8.

Ramp closures to and from eastbound I-94 throughout the closure limits will begin at 9 p.m. June 8, including the ramp from northbound I-35W to eastbound I-94. Access will remain available to southbound I-35W; however, eastbound I-94 traffic will be reduced to a single lane before the Lowry tunnel, and motorists should expect delays.

During the full closure of the roadway, a posted detour will direct motorists to use northbound I-35W, eastbound Hwy 36 and southbound I-35E to access eastbound I-94.

The roadway and all ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 11.

The closure is needed as crews resurface the roadway as part of the I-94 improvement project. This is the last closure of eastbound I-94. The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.

The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul features Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion. The project also includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway, drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, and realignment of the lanes.
