Reminder: Final westbound I-94 closure in Minneapolis scheduled for this weekend, June 1-4
Westbound right lane closure will switch to a left lane closure after the weekend
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and a detour on westbound I-94 in Minneapolis between Hwy 280 and Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue as the roadway closes at 10 p.m. Friday, June 1.
Ramp closures to and from westbound I-94 throughout the closure limits will begin at 9 p.m. June 1.
During the full closure of the roadway, the following detours will be posted:
- Motorists east of I-35E: Northbound I-35E to westbound Hwy 36 to southbound I-35W to westbound I-94
- Motorists west of I-35E: Northbound Hwy 280 to northbound I-35W to westbound I-694 to westbound I-94
Detour maps can be found at www.mndot.gov/fullclosures. The roadway and all ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 4.
After the weekend closure, the right lane closure between Hwy 280 and Cedar Avenue that has been in place will switch to a left lane closure during June 4-8 for final median work.
Motorists should be aware of the change and use as always caution when driving through construction zones. Non-rush hour eastbound lane closures may occur for median work in this location as well, and motorists should expect delays.
The closure is needed as crews resurface the roadway as part of the I-94 improvement project. The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.
The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul features Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion. The project also includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway, drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, and lane realignment.
