Reminder detour at Hwy 5/284 in Waconia to begin June 18

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists will encounter a detour and delays as the Hwy 5/284 intersection is reconfigured and traffic is affected for approximately seven weeks beginning Monday, June 18.

At 9 a.m., Monday, June 18 the traffic signal at the Hwy 5/284 intersection will be turned off and replaced with a two-way stop controlling traffic turning from Highway 284 to Highway 5. At the same time, southbound Highway 284 will be closed.

A signed detour will direct southbound Hwy 284 traffic westbound on Hwy 5 to County Road 10 to 284. Motorists also are advised to use Highway 5 to Main Street to access downtown Waconia. All residences and local businesses will remain accessible during the project.

All lanes are scheduled to reopen by 7 p.m. Friday, August 3.

When complete, the project will have improved mobility by adding new turn lanes, an upgraded, programmable signal system, improved pedestrian facilities that meet modern accessibility standards and making other improvements at the Highway 5/284 intersection.

Motorists are also reminded that Highway 5 is closed to through traffic in Victoria. Local businesses are accessible through the duration of the project. For detour maps see project website:

The project is led by the city of Waconia. More information can be found at the project’s website at
