I-494 reducing to a single lane May 9
Concrete rehabilitation project begins

(Roseville, Minn.) – Motorists will encounter non-rush hour delays on both directions of Interstate 494 in Bloomington, just west of the Mississippi River, as the road is reduced to a single lane during non-rush hours on 12 days beginning Wednesday, May 9.

Both directions of I-494 between 34th Avenue and Hwy 5 will be reduced to two lanes at 7 p.m., then reduced to a single lane at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, May 9-10. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following day. The overnight closures are needed as crews evaluate pavement and identify areas in need of repair.

Following the overnight lane closures, the same segments of I-494 will be reduced to a single lane at 10 p.m. Friday, May 11. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, May 14, in time for the Monday morning rush hour. The weekend lane closures are needed as crews rehabilitate sections of pavement in need of repairs and allow the required time for concrete to cure.

The process will repeat itself the following week. The same segments of I-494 will be reduced to two lanes at 7 p.m., then reduced to a single lane at 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, May 16-17, and reopen by 5 a.m. the following day. Following the overnight closures, the road will close for the weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, May 18 through 5 a.m. Monday, May 21.

The work is part of a larger project to rehabilitate concrete pavement at several locations throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area. Details on future lane closures at other locations will be issued as it becomes available.

When complete, the project will result in a smoother ride along several busy stretches of Twin Cities Metro Area roadway.
