Hwy 55 construction traffic change occurs May 10
Single lane traffic in Rockford continues

ROCKFORD, Minn. – Motorists will encounter delays on both directions of Hwy 55 in Rockford between Ash Street and Hwy 92 (Dogwood Street) as the Hwy 55 resurfacing project continues.

Starting as early as Thursday, May 10, traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes of Hwy 55. Traffic will continue to be reduced to one lane in both directions at all times through the end of May. Access is available onto all cross streets and to all local businesses. A temporary traffic signal is in place at the intersection of Hwy 55 and Rebecca Park Trail to help safely direct traffic.

Pedestrian access is currently closed at the Hwy 55 intersections of Ash Street and Main Street. A temporary pedestrian detour route has been established that utilizes Maple Street instead of Main Street for pedestrians crossing Hwy 55. Maple Street is an un-signalized intersection and pedestrians are encouraged to exercise caution when crossing Hwy 55 at this location. The Maple Street pedestrian detour is expected to remain in effect until early June.

The Hwy 55 design-build resurfacing project is located in Hennepin and Wright counties between Ash Street in Rockford and just west of Pinto Drive in Medina. Work includes resurfacing Hwy 55 to preserve the lifespan of the roadway and create a smoother drive for motorists, adding turn lanes at various intersections to enhance safety, repairing curb and gutters and drainage structures, and updating accessibility for pedestrians. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.
