Final westbound I-94 closure in Minneapolis rescheduled for June 1-4
Resurfacing continues

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and a detour on westbound I-94 in Minneapolis between Highway 280 and Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue as the roadway closes at 10 p.m. Friday, June 1.

Ramp closures to and from westbound I-94 throughout the closure limits will begin at 9 p.m. June 1.

During the full closure of the roadway, the following detours will be posted:

The roadway and all ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 4.

The closure is needed as crews resurface the roadway as part of the I-94 improvement project. This is the last closure of westbound I-94; a final closure of eastbound I-94 will also occur in the coming weeks, and updates will be made in advance of the closure. The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.

The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul features Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion. The project also includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway, drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, and realignment of the lanes.
