Second eastbound I-94 closure in Minneapolis rescheduled for May 4-7
Resurfacing continues
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and a detour on eastbound I-94 in Minneapolis between I-35W and Highway 280 as the roadway closes at 10 p.m. Friday, May 4.
Ramp closures to and from eastbound I-94 throughout the closure limits will begin at 9 p.m. May 4, including the ramp from northbound I-35W to eastbound I-94. Access will remain available to southbound I-35W; however, eastbound I-94 traffic will be reduced to a single lane before the Lowry tunnel, and motorists should expect delays.
During the full closure of the roadway, a posted detour will direct motorists to use northbound I-35W, eastbound Highway 36 and southbound I-35E to access eastbound I-94.
The roadway and all ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, May 7.
The closure is needed as crews resurface the roadway as part of the I-94 improvement project. This is the last closure of eastbound I-94; two weekend closures of westbound I-94 will occur in the coming weeks, and updates will be made in advance of each closure. The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.
The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul features Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion. The project also includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway, drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, and realignment of the lanes.
