Eastbound I-94 closure in Minneapolis scheduled for April 13-16
Closure is first of four weekend closures for resurfacing in downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will experience delays and a detour on eastbound I-94 in Minneapolis between I-394 and Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue as the roadway closes at 10 p.m. Friday, April 13.

Ramp closures to and from eastbound I-94 throughout the closure location will begin at 9 p.m. April 13. During the full closure of the roadway, motorists are advised to follow posted detours or use alternate routes.

In addition, the ramp from eastbound I-94 to southbound Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue will be closed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to access Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue.

The roadway and all ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, April 16.

The closure is needed for crews to resurface the roadway as part of the I-94 improvement project. Three more weekend closures will occur in the coming months, and updates will be made in advance of each closure. The work is weather permitting and may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.

The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway. The project also includes drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, realignment of the lanes and Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion.
