Updated: Lane closures on I-94 scheduled for March 10
Lane restrictions rescheduled from March 6

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists may experience delays as lane closures on westbound I-94 in Minneapolis and St. Paul occur Saturday, March 10.

The left lane of westbound I-94 will close between Cleveland Avenue and Franklin Avenue at 6 a.m., along with the ramp from southbound Highway 280 to westbound I-94. The ramp will remain closed for approximately three hours, and motorists are advised to use alternate routes to access westbound I-94. At approximately mid-morning, the left lane closure will be removed and the two right lanes will close in the same location. All restrictions are expected to be removed at approximately 2 p.m. March 10.

The lane closures are needed for restriping in order to shift traffic toward the inside of the roadway for retaining wall and overhead sign work that will occur on the north side of the interstate. The traffic shift was previously scheduled for overnight March 6 but has been rescheduled to allow for restriping during warmer daytime temperatures. The striping and lane closure timeframes for the traffic shift on March 10 are weather permitting.

All lanes will be maintained during the retaining wall and sign work, though overnight lane closures may continue to occur as needed.

Further traffic impacts are expected throughout the spring and summer as construction activities resume. Updates will be made as activities progress.

The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway. The project also includes drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, realignment of the lanes and Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion.
