Weekend lane closure planned for westbound I-694 at Island Lake
Weekend single lane traffic between Victoria Street and Lexington Avenue

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will encounter single lane traffic on westbound Interstate 694 at Island Lake in Arden Hills during daylight hours this weekend as crews begin work on the new Island Lake bridges just west of Victoria Street. Westbound I-694 will be restricted between Victoria Street and Lexington Avenue between 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1.

During this time, crews will install temporary sheet pile along the north side of I-694 near the bridges at Island Lake.  This work takes place during the day to prevent excessive nighttime noise to adjacent residents.

The temporary sheet piles are being used to minimize environmental impacts to Island Lake during construction of the new I-694 bridges over Island Lake. The sheet piles will separate Island Lake from construction activity on the I-694 bridges over the Island Lake Channel.

Substantial reconstruction at the interchange of I-694 and Hwy 10 at Snelling Avenue and Hamline Avenue in Arden Hills began last fall.  The two-year project includes reconstruction of the surrounding roadways between I-35W and Victoria Street, along with the Island Lake bridges east of the interchange between Lexington Avenue and Victoria Street.

Additional work this year will widen and add turn lanes to the Lexington Avenue Bridge crossing.  In addition to rebuilding the surrounding highways, the project will rebuild bridges in the corridor to lessen weaving by traffic, replace aging bridges and pavement, and improve safety and mobility.
