Long-term closure ahead for Snelling Avenue ramp to westbound I-694 in northern Twin Cities Metro area

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – As part of the reconstruction of I-694/Hwy 10/Snelling and Hamline Avenues in the northern Twin Cities Metro area, the Minnesota Department of Transportation must close the ramp from northbound Snelling Avenue to westbound I-694 following morning rush hour on Monday, April 2, 2012.  Northbound Snelling Avenue (Hwy 51) will be closed at Ramsey County Road E, and traffic will detour east on County Road E, and north on Lexington Avenue to reach the interstate. Access to Hamline Avenue and Ramsey County Road F also will be closed from the south.

Work on the northbound lanes of Snelling Avenue is scheduled to be completed by November 2012, at which time the ramp will reopen.

Substantial reconstruction at the interchange of Interstate 694 and Hwy 10 at Snelling Avenue and Hamline Avenue in Arden Hills began last fall.  The two-year project includes reconstruction of the surrounding roadways between I-35W and Victoria Street, along with the Island Lake bridges east of the interchange between Lexington Avenue and Victoria Street. Additional work this year will widen and add turn lanes to the Lexington Avenue Bridge crossing I-694. In addition to rebuilding the surrounding highways, the project will rebuild bridges in the corridor to lessen weaving by traffic, replace aging bridges and pavement, and improve safety and mobility.
