Metro’s Kannankutty Named National Public Works Leadership Fellow

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Metropolitan District’s Ramankutty Kannankutty, P.E., has been named Public Works Leadership Fellow by the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Kannankutty is among 96 inducted as leadership fellows by the APWA, and throughout the next 12 months his role will be to help mentor public works professionals enrolled in the APWA’s leadership center.

Nearly half of the body of current public works executives is nearing retirement age, and a critical need exists to hand down information to the next generation of leaders. Those awarded with leadership fellows have pledged to assist those who aspire to become leaders through a focused mentoring program.

An Area Engineer at Metro District, Kannankutty helps lead the planning and development of multiple, large, complex, inter-regional and intra-regional projects on sections of I-94, Hwy 610, Hwy 252, sections of Hwy 169 and sections of Hwy 101. He serves as the “point person” for local government contact regarding MnDOT Transportation Planning and Program Delivery functions.

“I understand the challenges facing next generation public works professionals,” Kannankutty said. “I plan to form a professional relationship with next generation public works professionals and assist them to succeed.”

The American Public Works Association (www.apwa.net) is a not-for-profit, international organization of more than 28,500 members involved in the field of public works. APWA promotes professional excellence and public awareness through education and the exchange of knowledge.
