Hwy 61 traffic switch rescheduled to Oct. 9
(Roseville, Minn.) – Motorists will encounter a new traffic configuration on Highway 61 between Third Street and Fifth Street in Hastings beginning late Sunday, Oct. 9 as two-way traffic is switched from the northbound lanes to the southbound lanes between 8 p.m. and midnight.
The changeover allows for the next phase of utility work to begin on the east side of Highway 61/Vermillion Street. The work was originally scheduled to begin Friday, Oct. 7.
Motorists are reminded that the temporary traffic signal at Fifth Street will remain as the primary access to downtown Hastings. With the new traffic configuration in place, turns at Highway 61/Vermillion Street and Third and Fourth Streets will be as follows:
- Motorists traveling southbound on Highway 61 will be allowed to make right turns onto West Third and West Fourth Streets.
- Motorists travelling eastbound on West Third and West Fourth Streets will be allowed to make right turns onto southbound Highway 61.
- Access to/from northbound Highway 61 will close at East Third Street (East Access Ramp) and East Fourth Street (near City Hall).
There will be noise associated with the preparatory work. Crews will begin removing pavement and moving concrete barrier starting at 8 p.m. Sunday and be completed by 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10. A flagging crew will control traffic during the traffic switch.
As is expected for the entire project, two-way traffic will remain across the river during rush hours, and access to local businesses and residences will not be affected.
Motorists and community members with questions can call the Hastings Bridge Project Hotline at 651-775-5244 or visit the project’s web site at www.dot.state.mn.us/hastingsbridge.
