Prescribed burns scheduled in Southeast Twin Cities Metro area
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — A prescribed burn crew from the Minnesota Department of Transportation Metro District will conduct a burn this fall along I-494 west of Hardman Avenue near South St. Paul, Newport, Inver Grove Heights and West St. Paul when conditions are favorable. The burn will be conducted at the Burns Wetland.
Prescribed burns are scheduled from mid-October to mid-December during optimal weather conditions to ensure effectiveness and safety.
Members of the crew are trained to monitor the burns that are carried out to improve the health and promote growth of native prairie vegetation and control weeds and brush.
Traffic should not be affected, and I-494 and Hardman Avenue will remain open during the burns.
If smoke drifts near the highway, motorists are urged to slow down and drive with caution.
