Traffic signal moving to Fifth Street in Hastings on Sept. 14
Noise expected for overnight prep work beginning Tuesday at 8 p.m.
(Roseville, Minn.) – Motorists traveling Hwy 61/Vermillion Street through Hastings will encounter a new traffic signal at Fifth Street beginning early Wednesday, Sept. 14. The intersection will become the primary access point for motorists travelling to and from downtown Hastings.
The traffic signal will temporarily replace an existing signal at Fourth Street. The move allows for the next phase of utility work for the Hastings Bridge reconstruction to begin at the Fourth Street intersection.
While the signal is in place at Fifth Street, turns at the Hwy 61 and Fourth Street intersection will allowed be as follows:
- Motorists travelling eastbound on West Fourth Street will be allowed to make right turns to southbound Hwy 61 for about two more weeks.
- Motorists traveling westbound on East Fourth Street will be allowed to make right turns to northbound Hwy 61.
- Motorists traveling northbound on Hwy 61 will be allowed to make right turns to East Fourth Street.
There will be noise associated with preparatory work between 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 and 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 as crews will begin grinding and hammering pavement and placing concrete barrier around the construction site.
As is expected for the entire project, two-way traffic will remain across the river during rush hours, and access to local businesses and residences will not be affected.
Motorists and residents with questions are encouraged to call the Hastings Bridge Project Hotline at 651-775-5244 or visit the project’s web site at www.dot.state.mn.us/hastingsbridge.
