Weekend closure planned for historic Robert Street bridge in downtown St. Paul

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists may encounter additional congestion and delays in downtown St. Paul this weekend during maintenance work on the Robert Street (Hwy 952) bridge crossing the Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul.  The structure will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8 while maintenance crews apply an epoxy sealer/overlay on the bridge deck to prolong the life expectancy of the deck for up to 20 years.

During the closure, motorists will detour on Kellogg Boulevard, Wabasha Street and Plato Boulevard. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid congestion and possible delays caused by nearby construction on Central Corridor Light Rail Transit and the Hwy 52 Lafayette bridge and bridges south of the river.

The project is dependent on fair weather and may be cancelled in the event of rain or high winds.

The Robert Street bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
