Lane closures extended for Hwy 55 Mendota Bridge
Deck sealing project continues
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will continue to encounter congestion and delays on both directions of the Hwy 55 Mendota Bridge spanning the Minnesota River between Fort Snelling and Mendota through the early part of the week of Aug. 28.
Both lanes of the westbound Mendota Bridge will reopen to traffic by the start of morning rush hour on Monday, Aug. 29. Both lanes of the eastbound Mendota Bridge will reopen to traffic by the start of afternoon rush hour on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
The original plan was to reopen both lanes in each direction by 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26. The completion date has been pushed back due to materials delays.
Maintenance crews are applying an epoxy sealer on the bridge deck to prolong the life of the deck by as much as 20 years.
The historic Mendota Bridge, which opened to traffic in 1926, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A new deck was built between 1992 and 1994.
