I-35E single lane traffic resumes July 31

Concrete overlay project restarts after state shutdown

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists may experience delays and increased congestion on both directions of I-35E between County Road 96 in White Bear Lake and the I-35/I-35W/I-35E split in Forest Lake beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday, July 31.

At that time both directions of the freeway will be shifted to the northbound lanes between the two points, and traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction as crews apply a new layer of concrete to the southbound lanes.

Both directions of I-35E will revert to two lanes by mid-October.

In spring 2012 crews will return to complete the concrete overlay on the northbound lanes.

In advance of the long-term lane closures, crews began preparing certain sections of the roadway on July 27. Short-term, non rush-hour lane closures will take place between the I-35/I-35W/I-35E split and County Road 96 through July 29.

This project aims to provide long-term improvements to the existing roadway. The existing pavement will be removed from the concrete below and replaced with a concrete overlay, which will provide greater durability and a smoother ride.
